8 Things We Love About PR After 8 Years

While February is often thought of as the month of love, for Worthington PR & Story, it also marks our anniversary. This year, on February 1, we celebrated eight years as an agency—a number that’s always held special meaning for our Founder and President, Paula Worthington.

Reaching that milestone gave us a reason to pause and reflect on what keeps our team engaged, and what matters most in the work we do every day.

As we move into this next chapter and our eighth year as an agency, here are eight things our team loves about working in PR, and why we continue to choose this work.

1. No Two Days Are the Same

Public relations is constantly evolving. Industries shift, priorities change, and each day brings something new. That variety keeps the work engaging and challenges our team to stay curious and adaptable.

“No two days are the same—I wake up every day excited to confidently guide the journey ahead.” – Paula Worthington, Founder and President.

2. The Work Is Grounded in Real People

At its core, PR is about people; the individuals behind organizations, the communities they serve, and the audiences they’re trying to reach. For Mike, that human focus is what gives the work meaning:

“The work is grounded in real people, real issues, and real moments. Helping organizations communicate with clarity, credibility, and care is what makes it meaningful.”

3. Every Industry Brings Something New to Learn

One of the most rewarding parts of agency life and PR is working across a wide range of industries. Each client brings new perspectives, priorities, and ways of thinking.

“My favourite thing about working in public relations is getting to work with people across so many industries, allowing me to learn something new every day,” says Rachel Redmond, Account Manager. “This, combined with the opportunity to build strong client relationships rooted in trust, makes the work especially meaningful and rewarding for me.”

For Senior Account Director Rachel Zollinger, that variety is also what makes PR such a natural fit. “Getting to work across multiple industries and encountering so many talented people along the way keeps work fresh and fun.”

4. Intentional Storytelling Shapes Our Work

Storytelling sits at the heart of PR, but the most effective stories are crafted with intention and a deep understanding of the audience. For Content Specialist Nenritji, that’s where the work really comes to life: “I enjoy dissecting and crafting impactful, long-lasting narratives that capture a client’s essence through various media and techniques.” That focus helps ensure stories resonate well beyond a single moment or platform, building lasting impact for our clients.

For Account Specialist Eve, working in PR is the perfect blend of two things she is passionate about: connecting with people and crafting compelling stories. “I love collaborating with clients, helping shape their work and ideas into stories that truly resonate with people.”

5. Creativity and Strategy Go Hand in Hand

The best PR work happens when creative ideas are grounded in a clear strategy. It’s not one or the other; it’s the balance between the two that makes the work effective.

“I love working in PR because it sits at the intersection of creativity and strategy, where no two days are the same. The pace and unpredictability are what push me to think quickly, adapt constantly, and stay curious about what’s happening in the world.” – Blake, Account Coordinator.

That balance is also what keeps the work engaging for Account Coordinator, Keira. “I love bringing media and intentional messaging together to share authentic stories. I’m constantly challenged to think strategically, adapt quickly, and continue growing both personally and professionally.”

6. There’s No One Way to Tell a Story

The way stories are shared has changed, and PR has evolved alongside it. Today, the work extends far beyond traditional media. In practice, that means thinking about how stories show up across platforms, communities, and moments, and choosing the right approach for each client and audience.

“I love PR because it’s so much bigger than traditional media. It’s about your brand story, your community impact, your team culture, and your legacy. There are countless tools in the modern PR toolbox for sharing stories, from collaborating with local creators and capturing videos to hosting interactive experiences and leading important conversations. We have a lot of space to be creative and customize our approach to fit each client, industry, audience and goal.” – Stephanie, Director of Digital Media & Graphic Design.

7. Fostering Trust with Clients

Strong PR work is built on trust. Acting as a trusted advisor means listening closely, asking thoughtful questions, and guiding clients through moments that matter.

That advisory role is central to the work Paula values most and how WPRS began eight years ago. “I love working in public relations because it allows me to serve others as a trusted advisor, helping others share their stories, amplify their voice, launch something new or navigate challenging times. I’m a curious person by nature, so being in a role where I can ask thoughtful questions, be creative, learn, grow and contribute value is deeply meaningful to me.”

8. The Work is Rewarding

While the work can be fast-paced, the moments when it all comes together make it especially rewarding, particularly when those wins are shared with a supportive and passionate team.

“What I love most about public relations is celebrating the PR wins alongside our clients, whether that be a press release that gets picked up, an event that goes well, an award won, or a social media reel that gets a ton of engagement. Knowing our clients are happy and seeing the value in our work is the best feeling.” – Cassie, Account Manager.

From behind the scenes, Operations Administrator and WPRS’ biggest cheerleader, Cate adds, “I enjoy working with and learning from creative minds, and celebrating with my team on the wins they achieve for our clients.”

Eight years in, what continues to stand out isn’t just the work itself, but the people, the stories, and the trust behind it all.
