An Inside Look into our 2025 Summer Internship Program

This summer, we had the pleasure of working with two talented interns who quickly became an integral part of our team. From supporting events and coordinating influencer campaigns to honing their writing skills across a variety of projects, they embraced each project with enthusiasm and professionalism. As they return to Mount Royal University to complete their fourth and final year in the public relations program, we’re grateful for the impact they’ve made during their time with us.

What’s the one skill you have improved the most during your summer internship?

During my time at Worthington PR & Story, I’ve been fortunate enough to cultivate a diverse skill set, but I am particularly proud of how much my time management skills have improved. Before this internship, I wasn’t accustomed to the quick transitions between projects that are required in such a fast-paced environment. I’ve learned to prioritize tasks effectively, adapt quickly to changing deadlines and manage multiple responsibilities, all of which have contributed to an improvement in my overall efficiency and productivity. This newfound proficiency in time management has not only benefited my work but has also instilled a greater sense of confidence in my ability to handle complex and challenging situations.

Was there a project or task that pushed you outside your comfort zone?

One task that pushed me out of my comfort zone was copywriting and content writing for a variety of projects. Having to adapt my writing voice and tone to match specific projects was new for me and something I had to practice throughout the internship. I was able to overcome this by reading old blogs and asking my mentor for direction; and by doing this, I was able to gain more confidence in my writing abilities.

How has this internship influenced your career goals or direction?

This internship has strengthened my excitement about pursuing a career in public relations and has given me clarity on wanting to work in an agency setting. Experiencing the variety of projects and fast-paced environment at WPRS showed me that no two days are the same, which keeps the work engaging and motivating. It confirmed that I thrive in this type of dynamic environment and has driven me to continue building the skills needed for a successful career in PR.

What surprised you most about working in a PR agency environment?

How fast-paced and dynamic it can be! I knew there would be variety, but I didn’t realize how quickly different projects could shift from one moment to the next. That constant change kept the work engaging and pushed me to become more adaptable, organized and confident in managing different priorities.

What’s the one skill you have improved the most during your summer internship?

Working closely with colleagues on projects, I learned how to contribute effectively, listen actively, and support others while also sharing my own ideas. I gained confidence in navigating group dynamics, balancing different perspectives, and working toward shared goals. This experience taught me the value of collective problem-solving and strengthened my ability to communicate and cooperate in a professional setting—skills I know will continue to benefit me in future roles.

Was there a project or task that pushed you outside your comfort zone?

The amount of research required on topics I had little to no previous knowledge of was quite the challenge as I had to learn the technicalities and details of topics while still delivering high quality work. The process brought me back to my school routine, but the stakes were much higher as the result wasn’t just for me but with my work going out to the public.  It demanded extensive research and multiple rounds of editing, but ultimately helped me build confidence in tackling unfamiliar content and strengthened my writing skills.

How has this internship influenced your career goals or direction?

This internship has opened my eyes to the possibility of pursuing a career in an agency setting, which I hadn’t previously considered. Experiencing the fast-paced and varied nature of the work has sparked a new interest for me and broadened my perspective on potential career paths. At the same time, it’s also reinforced my passion for working in sports media, a space where creativity, storytelling, and audience engagement come together in exciting ways. Whether it’s in an agency environment or the sports world, I’m eager to keep building on these skills and exploring where they can take me.

What surprised you most about working in a PR agency environment?

What surprised me most about working in an agency environment was how collaborative it is. I quickly learned that it’s not an individual job, you rely on others’ skills and expertise to accomplish tasks and answer questions. This experience gave me a new appreciation for teamwork and allowed me to see how each person contributes to the bigger picture.
