Annabelle Ackroyd – Communications Intern

How did you get your start in marketing / communications?

Annabelle: Growing up around my dad’s work in marketing and communications sparked my curiosity. As I got older, I realized I had a genuine passion for the field, which led me to pursue a career in it.

Favourite social media platform?

Annabelle: Instagram is my favourite platform. It allows me to stay connected with my friends and keep up with what’s happening in Calgary.

What’s your favourite marketing quote?

Annabelle: Marketing is no longer about the stuff that you make, but about the stories you tell.” – Seth Godin

What’s your best story?

Annabelle: Some of my best stories stem from my golf travels. I’ve been fortunate to play golf across North America and Scotland, where I’ve met incredible people and created unforgettable memories that will stay with me forever.

What’s your passion outside of work?

Annabelle: Outside of work, I am truly passionate about sports. I enjoy playing, competing, and watching a variety of sports, especially golf and tennis.

Vienne Janssen – Communications Intern

How did you get your start in marketing / communications?

Vienne: I got my start in communications volunteering with author Lisa Bowes for her children’s book series Lucy Tries Sports. The goal of this series was to encourage kids to try new sports and engage in creating an active and inclusive community. This role consisted of writing copy, engaging followers and navigating how to promote and inspire appropriately at the height of the pandemic.

Favourite social media platform?

Vienne: As my screen time updates would indicate – TikTok is my current favourite platform. I love the short-form content and how different creators develop unique brands and editing styles.

What’s your favourite marketing quote?

Vienne: “The most powerful person in the world is the storyteller. The storyteller sets the vision, values, and agenda of an entire generation that is to come.” – Steve Jobs

What’s your best story?

Vienne: My best stories come from my time in Toronto spent learning how to be a (semi-functioning) adult and from wild travel adventures courtesy of my parent’s proclivity for (semi-dangerous) vacation destinations.

What’s your passion outside of work?

Vienne: I am a lover of all things theatre and a very active member of the Toronto Metropolitan Theatre Company. I try to bring a touch of country from my Young Canadian roots to every show. In my free time, you can find me rehearsing for a few too many musicals or directing my university’s next show!
