Francesca Smith – Student Intern

We are reintroducing ourselves to our clients and partners, as our team continues to grow and evolve. Our newest team member, Francesca, joins the WPRS team as an intern as she completes her degree at Mount Royal University! Find out the journey that led Francesca into the communications and marketing world.

WPRS: How did you get your start in marketing / communications?

Francesca: I have always been a storyteller and passionate about communication. I got my start working as a Host at ATCO Blue Flame Kitchen throughout University and eventually was able to plan special events and contribute communications materials. It sparked my interest and led me to pursue a Bachelor of Communications majoring in Public Relations at Mount Royal University.

WPRS: Favourite social media platform?

Francesca: Instagram! I am a sucker for great copywriting, and Instagram features that so well! With Instagram, you can share valuable information with your audience and connect with them through compelling captions and interactive stories. I love having the ability to curate a personal feed that both informs and brings me joy, mostly in the form of dog pictures! If you like dog pics as much as I do, my Instagram is @cesca_smith.

WPRS: What’s your favourite marketing quote?

Francesca: “People do not buy goods and services. They buy relations, stories and magic.” – Seth Godin. I love this quote because it highlights the importance of the person behind the brand and building relationships.

WPRS: What’s your best story?

Francesca: When I was in Kindergarten at the end of the school year my teacher, Ms. Faris gave each student a poster highlighting her talents. Mine was, “The most important thing about Francesca is that she asks questions.” Fast forward a couple of decades, and I am still a curious person. In my role at Worthington PR & Story, I can apply my inquisitive nature to come up with innovative solutions.

WPRS: What’s your passion outside of work?

Francesca: I can be found doing all things creative in my free time, including digital illustrations, cooking and creative writing. I also love to do yoga, kayak and spend time with my two rescue dogs, Molly and Wylie. I am happiest at the cottage in Northwestern Ontario Lake of the Woods with a glass of wine!
